Namesake was founded in 2021 to make it easier for people in Massachusetts to legally update their name and gender marker. Since then, Namesake has supported over 1,000 youth and adults in Massachusetts, and helped connect folks to over $45,000 in financial assistance. In 2025 Namesake released a new, open source version of the app which plans to support all 50 states. You can learn more and contribute at namesake.fyi.
