Standards of Excellence

The standards explicitly define excellent U.S. election administration.

The standards explicitly define excellent U.S. election administration. Each standard defines goals that are achievable by all local election departments across the country. They are designed to support local election departments not to conflict with local, state, or federal laws. The standards focus on outcomes that support effective election administration. This means local election departments who pursue the standards will identify the approaches that make sense for their achievement of standards based on their unique context. In the end, election officials who achieve the standards will have streamlined processes they are proud of and will deliver a voting experience that builds trust with the public. The standards are designed by local election officials, designers, technologists and other experts to support local election departments. We invite local election officials, election experts, and organizations that support voters to review the standards and share your feedback.

Digital Public Goods Standard

The Digital Public Goods Standard is a set of specifications and guidelines designed to maximise consensus about whether a digital solution conforms to the definition of a digital public good: open-source software, open data, open AI models, open standards, and open content that adhere to privacy and other applicable best practices, do no harm by design and are of high relevance for attainment of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
