So, we came together to solve this problem dear to our hearts - restore faith in the news. OwlFactor automatically calculates the quality of an article based on four factors: The diversity and quality of its sources The opinionated nature of the article's writing style The historical scores and focus of the journalist on the topic The historical scores of all articles on the site Because the calculation is automated, without human involvement, criteria are consistently applied across articles and sources. Also, since scores are specific to an article, and not a publication, scores vary within a publication, example with the New York Times: Medium vs High scores. Our methodology is loosely based on The International Federation of Library Associations.
