On August 9, 2023, the Biden Administration announced the launch of the AI Cyber Challenge (AIxCC), which will award nearly $20 million in prizes in support of identifying and fixing software vulnerabilities through the use of AI. The AIxCC, led by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), will leverage the application of existing and new AI to protect critical U.S. cyber infrastructure, such as code that the Internet relies on to function effectively and securely. The AIxCC is supported by several top AI companies such as Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, which are lending their expertise and making their advanced technology available to competitors in the challenge.
