Each month, we share a quick roundup of what’s new, improved, or updated across the Civic Tech Field Guide. From fresh listings and more refined tags and categories, to database cleanup and design tweaks, we’re working behind the scenes to keep the Field Guide accurate, relevant, and useful for you, our community of builders, researchers, and organizers.

Here’s what’s new:

🌟 We’ve created a new category, Gazettes, to catalog projects that make government gazettes (‘registers’ in the US) more accessible and machine-readable.

Examples include Querido Diário, Open Gazettes South Africa, 전국 공보 지도 (National Public Information Map), and Dataly (Data Network of the Legislative Yuan).

🌟 We created another civic tech community tag to keep track of the growing number of Polis (pol.is) projects and products.

🌟 We’ve upgraded the claim project form linked to from the newsletter.

🌟 In our ongoing efforts to make the Civic Tech Field Guide a multilingual experience, we updated about 200 project URLs to remove the request for the English language version of the page. This means that your browsers will now request your default language from these sites.

🌟 We’ve inventoried all of the publicly available TICTeC 2025 presentations on their respective Civic Tech Field Guide listing pages. AND we created a TICTeC 25 community tag to create a gallery of 35 of the projects that presented.

🌟 We’ve created a new tag in the Civic Tech Field Guide, CTFG partners, to denote formal Civic Tech Field Guide community partners (past and present).

For example: People Powered, Cornell Tech, Superbloom Design, Newspeak House, mySociety, Code for All, and Civic Hall.

We surpassed 4,300 subscribers to our newsletter! That’s more than double where we were just a year ago. Thanks for being here.

In the spirit of UN Open Source Week, we’ve:

🌟  Created a new category for public sector Open Source Program Offices (OSPOs)

🌟  Added and cross-linked the UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU) projects, including their recent focus on promoting open source program offices.

Did you know the ITU has been around since the invention of the telegraph?? It was founded in 1865, making it the second oldest listing in our database. Can you guess the oldest?

🌟  Added reference links between our various open source categories to help with navigation, including:

– All open source tools in the Civic Tech Field Guide
– General purpose open source tools
– Open source supply chain projects
– Open source networks
– Open source developer networks
– Open source AI

🌟  We’ll now try and give you a heads up when we share your open jobs with our community.

🌟  We’ve created a tag for French national government projects and populated the first ten entries.

🌟  We’ve geocoded lat / long coordinates for some 200 new locations to improve the global civic tech map and listing page maps across the site.

🌟 Together we’ve added over 300 new listings to the database this month. These include:

• Open Dev Africa’s members, an increasingly formal network of  Francophone open government organizations collaborating across the continent.
• Volt Data Lab’s wide range of data journalism projects in Brazil.
• More projects seeking to improve govtech procurement, especially related to AI.
