Terminometer is a public transparency tool for the U.S. news ecosystem. Every 10 minutes, it automatically scans the front pages of 15 major American news portals and measures how similar their headlines are to each other — flagging textually equivalent stories across outlets in real time. In its first week alone, it found over 6,000 textual equivalences across more than 3,200 headlines, offering concrete, ongoing evidence that a significant portion of what appears to be independent news coverage is in fact the same wire content published simultaneously under different mastheads. It's built for journalists, media researchers, educators, and anyone who wants to understand how homogenized American news has become. The data is free, public, and updates continuously — no login required. People can help by using the tool, sharing it with journalists and researchers who study media concentration, and suggesting additional U.S. news portals to include in the analysis.
