Three political scientists have published a free, standardized precinct-level dataset of every Russian federal election from 2000 to 2024, harmonized across two decades of boundary changes so researchers can actually study Russia's slide into consolidated autocracy.
RED is an open, peer-reviewed dataset covering six presidential and five parliamentary Russian elections at the precinct level, cleaned to account for constant precinct renumbering and reporting inconsistencies. Published in Nature's Scientific Data, it's built to enable rigorous empirical work on electoral manipulation, turnout, and voter behaviour in an authoritarian context where the raw records are deliberately messy.
