Sidewalk Labs, sister company to Google, won a bid in late 2017 to be part of the development of the Port Lands, a part of Toronto’s waterfront, roughly the size of downtown Toronto. This project is called Sidewalk Toronto.

The process they have followed to engage residents has lacked transparency and accountability. It’s been almost 1.2 years since Waterfront Toronto entered into an agreement with Sidewalk Labs and recently it’s come to light that Sidewalk Labs may seek to take a share of Toronto’s property taxes and development fees in exchange for their project financing and what they call their role as a catalyst to get the waterfront developed. But it is residents and government that are the catalysts and it’s time to stop the project, assess the lessons learned, address the policy issues and then consider a fresh start for the deal.

That’s why we, a group of residents, are launching this campaign and inviting other residents to BlockSidewalk. Add your name below to join us and read our press release. This is the beginning step, we will have more for you to participate in soon.
